Hi my name is Paul Levy, a sophomore Public Health major and future Orientation Advisor this summer. I wanted to echo the sentiments of joining organizations on campus and getting involved. As a freshman coming from out of state last year, I didn’t know too many people on campus. After taking a chance and signing up for a couple of clubs I was able to branch out and meet some really cool people who shared similar interests. Not only do clubs serve as an outlet to meet new friends or explore your interests, but it also gives you a chance to take part in an activity that you are passionate about. Whether that’s playing on the club tennis team or participating in Colleges Against Cancer, organizations can help fill a void that you may very well find yourself missing during college.
ReplyDeleteAs I have gotten more involved with certain clubs I have also seen some of the other benefits I had overlooked. When you join a club and honor certain commitments, you learn as a student how to manage your time and stay accountable. This is a crucial skill set not only at school but in life, and something that will only help moving forward. Aside from taking on new challenges and roles in a club, it is also a great way to network and meet people who may influence and help you on your career path. Meeting people who share common interests and who might have insight into your field is a great way to learn about new experiences and opportunities that may be available to you. Personally I have gotten involved in America Reads America Counts and it has even changed my path and career outlook in the future. At the end of the day, college should be about exploring new terrain and getting involved in certain areas you may not have thought about. Expanding your horizons can cause you to look at ideas or objectives in totally different ways, and something I truly encourage every student to get involved in at school. Take advantage of these organizations and you might never know what path they might lead you on.
