I know Veteran's Day was the other day, but I wanted to write a quick post about Veteran's Services here at UM. The Veteran population continues to grow each semester and UM is responding. There are a few services available to Veterans as they begin their transition to Higher Ed.
The first is The Veterans Programs Office in the Stamp Student Union. You can find the site at http://www.veterans.umd.edu/. It is currently Veterans Appreciation Week so you can find that schedule there. You can also sign up for the Veteran's listserv and find information on programming specifically for Veterans.
The second is the VA Benefits Office in the Office of the Registrar. You can find the site at http://www.testudo.umd.edu/vabenefits/index.html. This site provides information on all of the benefits that Veterans receive for Higher Education. You can also contact somebody in the Registars Office to have your questions answered as you continue through the transfer process.
Lastly is Terp Vets. Terp Vets is a student organization established to provide its members with an opportunity to recognize Veterans through volunteer and social events. Find their website and join Terp Vets at http://www.veterans.umd.edu/student_org.shtml.
As a Veteran or friend or family member of a Veteran, what services should UMD provide its Veteran students?
