Terpoets and TransU presents Behind the Octopus: An Evening With the Staff of the Jimenez-Porter Writers' House.

Johnna Schmidt is a graduate of the MFA Program in Creative Writing at University of Maryland. Johnna has over ten years experience teaching creative writing. Awards include the American Writer's Program Intro to Journals Nomination in Fiction. Johnna resides in Hyattsville with her husband and two sons. She is the Director of the Jimenez-Porter Writers' House.

Dwayne Betts is a poet, memoirist, teacher, and MFA candidate. He is author of A Question of Freedom: A Memoir of Learning, Survival, and Coming of Age in Prison (2009), and Shahid Reads His Own Palm (forthcoming 2010), winner of the 2010 Beatrice Hawley Award. His poems have been published in literary journals and magazines including Ploughshares, Crab Orchard Review and Poet Lore.

Open mic at 7pm, features at 8pm.
